GMO debate update - from Greenpeace website

“Greenpeace welcomes the Western Australian Government’s recent announcement that it will extend its ban on genetically engineered (GE) crops by a further 4 years.

GE crops pose unacceptable risks to human health, the environment and the economy. The Government’s position is a triumph for common sense, and is in stark contrast to the governments of Victoria and NSW, who have lifted their bans and currently have GE crops under cultivation.

The WA Government moratorium applies not only to GE food crops, but also to fibre crops such as cotton. This is a major victory for the Say No to GMO coalition who have been campaigning against the introduction of GE cotton in the state.”

With our state elections looming, it’s interesting to note that the Liberal Party, if elected, intend to throw out any moratorium immediately and introduce genetically modified crops without any further consideration of the impact on our health or the environment.

If you think we should allow genetically modified crops into our environment and believe GM foods have no impact on us, please take the time to watch the David Suzuki video or “The Future of our Food”, both are documentaries on this subject. This will give you both sides of the argument. We have them available at the front counter.

8 hard principles of Choy Lay Fut

  1. Use the power of a mountain, but remain calm and move fast like a rabbit.
  2. Move your face and be alert, break the face, for example, using tow la charp chui.
  3. Use the back, waist and shoulder to push the power of your palm.
  4. Use two elbows to block and push with power
  5. When you decide to commit yourself, you must have total commitment, stick to your opponent, then change using explosive power.
  6. The power must be directed downwards, punch downward, as a bomb sinks a ship.
  7. Move or weave like a boxer, react like a spring.
  8. Pull, grab together using circular movements, generating power from the waist.

Sifu’s thought

I would like to take time to explain why I feel it is important that you practice your foundations.

I have new rules for all the clubs that I feel so strong about. My intentions are to look after you in these clubs and give you stronger foundations. There are some students who have a convenient memory loss when coming to the school and don’t practice what I have set out. I am greatly disappointed if you are one of these students, I feel I should not have to remind you. You have made a longer commitment to the school to be a part of the club you joined. You will learn things in these clubs that other members don’t get to learn or practice on with understanding of what you are doing.

Choy Lay Fut is all about self discipline, and what you put in, is what you get out. Kung Fu stands for “hard work”. Some students get upset from sitting in a horse stance for 15 minutes, and even students who have been with me for a long time find it hard to do as well. If you were to go back in time and learn under Masters like Tarm Sarm or Kong On you would be sitting in a horse stance for 2 hours every day for the first 6 months. You must learn to break the pain barrier through self discipline. Consistency is the only way to do it. My Si Gong in Hong Kong says to practice half hour each day for 6 months. So you guys are still getting off lightly.

I hope by this explanation you will be more diligent in your practice and consistent in attending your clubs. By the way, congratulations and well done to those handful of students who have taken on the commitment to do their horse stance training everyday for half an hour a day, you will reap the benefits of your efforts.

Nutritional corner

To all students - don’t forget about our nutritional corner at the school we like you to become more aware of your health and the need to supplement your diet. We have the best range of nutritional products available which has won the gold medal standard award in Australia and New Zealand.

If you would like to know more just talk to one of our team at the front counter. Simo went to a talk recently by Dr Peter Dingle, he is a nutritional lecturer at Murdoch University. He doesn’t recommend any particular supplements but he does recommend everyone, including kids take supplements, especially a good quality mineral as our soil is deficient already. He also highly recommend Omega 3 fish oils. USANA have one of the best on the current market.
