Qigong or Chi Kung is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical movements, breathing practices and focused intention.
The word Qigong (Chi Kung) is made up of two Chinese words. Qi, which is pronounced chee and is usually translated to mean the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe.
Gong is the Chinese word for work, hence it is work with our life force to strengthen and energise.  
Qigong can be spelled in a variety of ways such as Chi Kung, Chi Gong or Qi Kung.

Generally translated “the art of the enlightened one” the Lohan Qigong is a complete system of health maintenance for both the internal and external body.  It maintains the Yin/Yang balance in the body through physical movement, breath control and mental concentration.

The origins of the 18 Lohan Qigong date back to the 6th century A.D, when a travelling Indian monk named Bodidharma (also known as Da Mo), bought scriptures of Buddhism from India to China. He eventually settled at the Shaolin Monastery in the Henan Province, and founded Chan (or Zen) Buddhism.

After noticing that the monks became sluggish from long hours of meditation, Da Mo devised a set of exercises to keep the meditators healthy and strong.  These exercises are known as 18 Lohan Qigong.  This specific Qigong exercise has been kept very secretive and its only been in recent times that the art has come to the public.
