Junior Kung Fu
We conduct junior classes in Kung Fu for students aged 6 through to 15. Your child will learn the art of Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu in a manner that also instills the responsibility and maturity that must come with it. Training in Kung Fu is not just about self-defence and physical development, but also about self-knowledge, self-discipline, integrity and courage.

We were having trouble getting our 5 year old son to sit still at school and focus on the tasks he was being given to do at pre primary. After 4 weeks of training we noticed an improvement at home and coincidently had a parent/teacher meeting with our son’s teacher at school. She commented on the amazing turn around in our son’s behaviour and skills in class in recent weeks. My husband and I are directly attributing this improvement to the teaching at the Chinese Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy. With a big thank you.

The STAR programme
The STAR programme is our system of developing mature and responsible attitudes in our young students. They are rewarded not only for excellence and dedication in their Kung Fu, but also for acts of kindness and maturity, for responsible behaviour at home and at school, and for developing an awareness of their responsibilities to their parents, their community and the environment. They are also encouraged to develop interpersonal skills to handle conflicts with their peers in a constructive and peaceful way. By showing maturity and responsibility, students can also earn Kung Fu Dollars, which can be exchanged for rewards from our shop.
Since Garrick has joined the Academy we have noticed a marked increase in his energy levels. The STAR program has increased his sense of self and has given him the confidence to join in social activities that previously daunted him.

Training
The junior classes are taught essentially the same authentic Kung Fu as the adult classes, but in a more fun and exciting manner, including games at the end of classes. They will also learn “forms” which are series of movements combining many different stylised fighting moves into a dynamic sequence the students can be proud to perfect and perform. The skills, knowledge and tenacity they will learn in the junior classes remain highly relevant should they continue beyond the age of fifteen and join the adult classes.
We invite you to visit our school, meet our instructors and try the classes out so you can experience for yourself what we have to offer.
