Cantonese Jackets
All new Cantonese jackets ordered will now have an embroidered dragon on the back. It will be a 5 colour print with Chinese Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy similar to jumpers. The new price will be $105. For all those who have already placed orders and paid the price will remain the same.
Kung Fu Pants
We have a new stock of Kung Fu pants available. The pants are imported from the USA and are very high quality poly cotton. They wash and wear much better than the cotton pants and will last longer. The new price for the poly cotton Kung Fu pants are $55.
Fight Night
Congratulations once again to Marco Tentori for his decided win over his opponent. The guy he was fighting had around 6 wins under his belt with a few being knockouts. He was no competition to Marco who fought very well. Ben also fought well but unfortunately didn’t win his fight. It is an awesome task getting out there for your first fight so well done Ben.
Black Sash Club
Dates for Black Sash Club are:

The topic for Black Sash Club this month is based on ‘Strategies on Tournament Fighting – Defending yourself in the street.’ Techniques to use and kicks to use on how to attack and defend, so don’t miss out. Black Sash Club members who do not attend will practice 15 minutes horse stance. So don’t miss this great opportunity.
Grading
Grading dates for O’connor are June 23rd to 28th and Balcatta is June 30th to July 5th.
18 Lohan
The 18 Lohan Qigong will now be taught to all students on A days when your class finishes. It will be broken down into 4 sections and taught according to your levels. The 18 Lohan is a form which is mandatory to learn in all advance levels in Choy Lay Fut. It is an internal stretching form of Qigong and is great for lower back strength and building you chi energy. It was taught to the Shaolin monks in 500 AD by a Monk named Bodiharma or Dart Mo. If you would like to know more information about this excellent form ask at the front counter. I will also have a DVD our soon that you can purchase.
Tigers and Panthers
Tigers and Panthers will have more on forms to learn so be prepared. More time will be allocated for the learning of forms and running through past level forms. So train hard and more practice at home and before class starts.
Change to Grading
All students in all levels will be allowed to grade up faster if you can show Sifu that you can do everything in your level correctly. You will also need to show that you are consistent with your training. You can be referred to Sifu by an Assistant Instructor if he or she feels you are doing well enough to pass a grading. So train hard and you can move through the levels a bit quicker if your kung fu is strong.
Balcatta Only
Morning adult classes have been changed to a 1 hour make up class for all levels every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:00pm to 3:00pm. For make up classes you can come whatever time you want and leaven when you want and practice what you want in your curriculum so come down if you can make it, check the timetable for make up class times at both schools.
Drinks
Check out our new range of drinks and snacks in the vending machine at Balcatta. We have 3 different flavours of Nutrimeal Shakes, these are great to have before training as they give you a boost of energy for training. They are also a good meal replacement and will help you lose weight. We have a shake bottle available at the front counter if you wish to have the shake at the Kung Fu school. These is also Nutribars available which are a great low fat, filling snack, the kids love them too and are good for them.
Kid’s Movie Night – Balcatta
It’s here again, the 27th of June is our fun filled kid’s movie night. For just $17 each just drop the kids off and have the night off. A night of games, PG movies, a sausage sizzle and surprises. All members’ children are welcome to attend. See the front counter for details and permission slip.

Vitamin C – One Key to Good Health
Linus Pauling who is considered one of the most influential chemists of the 20th century, and ranks amongst the most important scientists in history believes that Vitamin C will provide considerable protection against the common cold.
Pauling was one of the first scientists to work in the fields of quantum chemistry, molecular biology and orthomolecular medicine. He is also a member of a small group of individuals who have been awarded more than one Nobel Prize, one of only two people to receive them in different fields (the other was Marie Curie) and the only person in that group to have been awarded each of his prizes without having to share it with another recipient.
In one article on Vitamin C he details a clinical trial where 270 schoolboys at a winter ski camp were given either a gram of vitamin C per day, in a capsule or a placebo (an empty capsule). It was a randomized double-blind, controlled trial and with each boy the burse made sure that the boys swallowed the capsule so that he didn’t have the trouble that other investigators have of the boys (boys especially)not swallowing the capsule.
The result was 63 percent less illness with the common cold for the boys who received the vitamin C compared to those who received the placebo.
In a nutshell, he found that 37 of 38 trials since 1970 lead to the conclusion that vitamin C had a protective effect.
